Minnesota off to 5-0 start
Minnesota is off to a surprising 5-0 start to the season following a 40-17 win over Illinois at home last weekend. The Gophers are 2-0 in the Big Ten this far while going 2-2-1 against the spread and 3-2 with the over.
The Golden Gophers are relying on a solid defense this year. They are giving up 27.2 points per game, but allowing only 314.4 yards per game. Offensively, Minnesota is posting 35.8 points and 409 yards per outing. Rodney Smith has rushed for 536 yards and three scores to lead the offense while Tanner Morgan has thrown for 1,250 yards and 13 touchdowns. Rashod Bateman is his top receiver. Bateman has 23 catches for 537 yards and four touchdowns.
Nebraska winning, but struggling
Nebraska had another close call last weekend, edging Northwestern at home by a score of 13-10. The Cornhuskers are now 4-2 on the season, 2-1 in the Big Ten, 1-5 against the spread and 4-2 with the under.
Despite a lot of buzz coming into 2019, the Nebraska offense has been underwhelming this year. The Huskers are averaging just 28.7 points and 418.3 yards per game this year while the defense is giving up 26.5 points and 383.8 yards per game. Nebraska has some concerns coming into this game, as quarterback Adrian Martinez is dealing with a knee injury. Listed as questionable, he was in pads for practice this week. Martinez has thrown for 1,245 yards and seven touchdowns while rushing for a team-high 341 yards as well. Leading receiver JD Spielman is also questionable with a knee injury. He has 21 catches for 410 yards and a score this year.
College Football Betting Trends
Minnesota
The Gophers are 6-2 with the under in their last eight games on fieldturf and 4-1 with the under in their last five home games.
Nebraska
The Cornhuskers are 8-1 with the over in their last nine road game and 11-4-1 with the over in their last 16 conference games.
Prediction:
These two have hit the over in three of their last four meetings between each other. The Cornhuskers have played to the level of their competition for the most part this season and I would expect some of that today in terms of scoring. Nebraska should be able to score on Minnesota and the Gophers should definitely be able to score on the Huskers. Minnesota has put up at least 35 points in its last four games and I would expect that today as well. Nebraska can put up about 24-28 of its own to hit the over.
