According to the latest oddsmakers, Clemson is the heavy favorite at home in this game, as the Tigers are getting odds of -27.5 points against Florida State. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 59.5 points. The public betting currently has 52 percent going on Florida State as the underdog. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our NCAAF Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Clemson gets scare
Clemson had a bye last weekend, but the Tigers are coming off a 21-20 win at North Carolina the week prior, stopping the Tar Heels on a 2-point conversion to get the victory. Clemson is 5-0 on the season, 3-0 in the ACC, 3-2 against the spread and 3-2 with the under.
The Tigers have a pretty good offense that averages 38 points and 486 yards per game, but the defense is what is really special. Clemson is giving up just 12 points and 255.2 yards per game this season. Trevor Lawrence has thrown for 1,131 yards and eight touchdowns, but also has five interceptions this year. Travis Etienne is the team’s leading rusher with 462 yards and five scores while Tee Higgins has 22 receptions for 505 yards and three touchdowns.
Florida State seeks major upset
It’s been an up-and-down season for Florida State thus far. The Seminoles have won their last two games, but are looking for a program-defining win right now. FSU is 3-2 on the season, 2-1 in the ACC, 2-2-1 against the spread and 3-2 with the over.
The FSU offense is putting up 33.2 points and 429.4 yards per game this season, which isn’t bad. However, the Florida State defense is allowing 29.6 points and 447 yards per game, which is in the bottom third of the country. James Blackman has thrown for 970 yards and nine touchdowns to lead the offense while Cam Akers has rushed for 582 yards and seven touchdowns. Tamorrion Terry is the leading receiver with 21 catches for 384 yards and four scores.
College Football Betting Trends
The Tigers are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 ACC games and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 following a win.
Florida State is 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 games following a cover, but just 1-4-1 ATS in their last six road games.
Clemson has won four straight over Florida State, but the two have each covered twice in those two meetings. The issues the past two years for FSU has been offense, scoring only 24 points combined against Clemson. That’s probably going to be an issue again today, as the Clemson defense hasn’t allowed more than 20 points in a game. FSU just doesn’t have the talent and speed to light up this Clemson defense on the road. The question for the spread is, can the Tigers do enough offensively. At home, Clemson has put up 52 twice and then grinded out a win over Texas A&M. The FSU defense is not A&M caliber, so I think Lawrence and company will make plays and give the crowd something to cheer today.
College Football Week 7 Prediction: Clemson -27.5
