Bobcats looking to end losing streak
The Bobcats have dropped three straight since a 36-20 win over Texas Southern. They are now 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the Sun Belt. They are also just 1-3-1 against the spread and 3-2 with the over.
Texas State is putting up 24.4 points and 352.2 yards per game on offense this year. Quarterback Willie Jones III missed last game with a shoulder injury. He has thrown for 517 yards and three touchdowns this year and is questionable for tonight’s game. There has been no updates on his status as we approach kickoff. Tyler Vitt has filled in for Jones and has thrown for 518 yards and five touchdowns this year. Jones is also the team’s leading rusher with 189 yards. The Bobcats have been struggling on defense most of the year, allowing 32.6 points and 397 yards per game thus far.
The Eagles are off to a 4-1 start this year, with the lone loss coming at Clemson. Georgia Southern has won both of its Sun Belt Conference games this year and is 5-0 against the spread and 4-1 with the under.
Georgia Southern has been winning with defense this year, as it is holding opponents to just 18.2 points per game while giving up 377.6 yards per contest. Offensively, the Eagles are putting up 30.8 points per game despite averaging just 255.8 yards per game. Their pass offense puts up just 80.6 yards per game as they are a very run-heavy team. Quarterback Shai Werts has rushed for 454 yards and eight touchdowns this year while throwing for 363 yards and four scores. Wesley Fields has added 379 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Texas State is 1-5 against the spread in its last six home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five games in October.
Georgia Southern has covered the spread in four of its last five conference games and 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 road games.
Georgia Southern was able to cover a big spread against Texas State when the two last met and I think the Eagles can do it again tonight. Texas State could still be without their QB in Jones. Even if he is to play, he’s not likely to be 100 percent. Georgia Southern can control tempo and the pace of play with their run game. It should be able to carve up the Bobcats and allow them to establish a comfortable lead that will lead to a cover.
College Football Prediction: Georgia Southern -17.5
