AAC showdown moved due to possible floods
Navy’s tilt at East Carolina on Thursday evening has been postponed to Nov. 19 because of expected flooding from Hurricane Matthew.
ECU athletic director Jeff Compher announced the decision Monday. Both schools had open dates that week.
Officials at the Greenville-based university cancelled classes all week in the aftermath of the storm. Area residents suspect the Tar River, which runs adjacent to Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, could reach its highest crest since Hurricane Floyd in 1999.
The Midshipmen (4-1, 3-0 American Athletic Conference) stunned then-No. 6 Houston over the weekend. Despite missing senior quarterback Tago Smith and leading tackler Daniel Gonzales, Ken Niumatalolo’s crew racked up 46 points and 382 yards of total offense against the Cougars. The Pirates (2-4, 0-2), on the other hand, are coming off a 38-22 loss to South Florida.
