Texas State heating up
Texas State opened up conference play with an OT win over Georgia State on Sept. 21 and they followed that up with a 24-3 win over Nicholls State on Sept. 28. The Bobcats are 2-3 on the year, 1-0 in the Sun Belt, 1-3-1 against the spread and 2-2 with the over/under total.
The Bobcats don’t have much going for them on offense this year, averaging just 19.8 points and 323.2 yards per game. Defensively, Texas State is giving up 29.6 points and 410.6 yards per game. Gresch Jensen is leading Texas State with 1,121 passing yards and five touchdowns, but he also has six interceptions. Caleb Twyford is the leading rusher with 294 yards and a score while Hutch White is the leading receiver with 31 catches for 236 yards.
Monroe run over by Memphis
UL Monroe is coming off a loss this past weekend at home to Memphis, 52-33, and now the Warhawks have a short week for a conference game. Monroe is just 2-3 on the year, 1-0 in the Sun Belt, 1-4 against the spread and 3-2 with the over.
The Warhawks have one of the worst defensive units in the league, as they are giving up 39 points and 506.8 yards per game this season. Offensively, ULM is putting up 31.6 points and 470 yards per contest. Caleb Evans has thrown for 1,172 yards and 10 touchdowns to lead the Warhawks while also rushing for 286 yards. Josh Johnson is the team’s leading rusher with 598 yards and four touchdowns while Josh Pederson has 23 catches for 283 yards and five scores.
College Football Betting Trends
Texas State
The Bobcats have covered in four of their last five games in October, but just 5-13 ATS in their last 18 games following a cover.
UL Monroe
The Warhawks are 4-10 against the spread in their last 14 conference games and 6-19 ATS in their last 25 games in October.
Prediction:
Monroe has won three straight against Texas State, but the Bobcats have managed to cover in four of the last five encounters. Monroe has really given up some big points this year, but playing a pretty competitive schedule. Texas State has won its last two, but not in convincing fashion against some light opponents. The difference in this game should be the Warhawks offense. Monroe is averaging 12 points more per game and over 130 yards per game more than the Bobcats. I just don’t see Texas State getting into enough of an offensive groove to keep up with Monroe.
