Penn State Nittany Lions Game Notes
Penn State redshirt senior QB Sean Clifford accounted for nearly the entire offensive output Saturday night under the lights, throwing for three touchdowns en route to a 24-0 win over Indiana. Clifford connected with WR Jahan Dotson for two of those scores, the latter of which stretched the Nittany Lion lead to 21-0 with 4:16 to play in the third quarter. Clifford completed 17 of 33 passes for 179 yards, but on a night when the PSU defense pitched a shutout he wasn’t required to do too much heavy lifting to dispatch the Hoosiers in a revenge game after last year’s last-second loss in Bloomington. The win improves No. 4 Penn State to 5-0 and sets up a marquee showdown next week with No. 5 Iowa in Iowa City.
Iowa Hawkeyes Game Notes
Iowa redshirt sophomore QB Spencer Petras completed 21-of-30 passes for 259 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Friday night’s 51-14 win over Maryland. Petras (6’5/233) had a relatively easy go of things on Friday, which started with him sneaking his way in for a one-yard touchdown at the beginning of the second quarter. He later connected with wide receiver Arland Bruce IV for a touchdown, and then rushed his second rushing TD of the day in with 11:57 left in the first half. By the time the second quarter had ended, Petras and his Hawkeyes were up 34-7, with 31 of those points coming in the second quarter. Now at 5-0, Iowa will look to continue it’s dominance in a Week 5 home matchup against Penn State.
