Iowa State rolls past TCU
Iowa State was edged at Baylor two weeks ago, but bounced back last weekend with a 49-24 win at home over TCU. The Cyclones are 3-2 on the year, 1-1 in the Big 12, 3-2 against the spread and 3-2 with the over.
The Cyclones are strong on offense this year, putting up 37.6 points and 487.2 yards per game. The defense isn’t too bad either, allowing just 22.2 points and 348 yards per contest. Quarterback Brock Purdy has been leading the offense this year. He has thrown for 1,578 yards and 10 touchdowns while also leading the team in rushing with 203 yards and five touchdowns. Deshaunte Jones is the leading rusher for the team with 37 catches for 444 yards and a score. The Iowa State defense is led by O’Rien Vance, who has 34 tackles and 6.5 sacks.
WVU gives Texas a game
West Virginia gave Texas a battle last weekend, but still struggled late and took a 42-31 loss at home to the Longhorns. WVU is now 3-2 on the season, 1-1 in the Big 12, 2-2-1 against the spread and 3-2 with the over.
The Mountaineers haven’t had the offense we have grown accustomed to over the years, averaging just 26.2 points and 353.4 yards per game. Defensively, WVU is giving up 28.8 points and 386.2 yards per contest. Austin Kendall is the leader on offense. He has thrown for 1,238 yards and nine touchdowns, but also has seven interceptions. Sam James is his leading receiver with 32 catches for 329 yards and two scores. However, James is questionable to play this weekend due to a head injury. Kennedy McKoy is the leading rusher with just 181 yards and three touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Iowa State
The Cyclones are 22-7-1 against the spread in their last 30 games in October and 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29 conference games.
West Virginia
The Mountaineers are 1-5 against the spread in their last six games in October and 5-2-2 ATS in their last nine games against a winning team.
Prediction:
West Virginia has won four of the last five in this series, going 3-1-1 against the spread as well. However, Iowa State won and covered in last year’s meeting, a 30-14 victory in Iowa. Iowa State has been competitive in all games this year, with both losses coming by a combined three points. Going on the road shouldn’t scare the Cyclones, but West Virginia also has been pretty solid at home. The Mountaineers bested N.C. State by 17 and gave Texas a scare last week. I am not sure Iowa State’s offense is going to travel well, as it had just 21 points in its only other road game this year. West Virginia may be able to find some holes in the Iowa State defense while the Mountaineers limit the ISU offense to keep this game competitive. I will take WVU with the points and see if Iowa State can show me something on the road.
College Football Week 7 Prediction: West Virginia +10.5
