Georgia Southern off to strong start
The Eagles are off to a 4-1 start this year, with the lone loss coming at Clemson. Georgia Southern has won both of its Sun Belt Conference games this year and is 5-0 against the spread and 4-1 with the under.
Georgia Southern has been winning with defense this year, as it is holding opponents to just 18.2 points per game while giving up 377.6 yards per contest. Offensively, the Eagles are putting up 30.8 points per game despite averaging just 255.8 yards per game. Their pass offense puts up just 80.6 yards per game as they are a very run-heavy team. Quarterback Shai Werts has rushed for 454 yards and eight touchdowns this year while throwing for 363 yards and four scores. Wesley Fields has added 379 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Texas State on losing skid
The Bobcats have dropped three straight since a 36-20 win over Texas Southern. They are now 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the Sun Belt. They are also just 1-3-1 against the spread and 3-2 with the over.
Texas State is putting up 24.4 points and 352.2 yards per game on offense this year. Quarterback Willie Jones III missed last game with a shoulder injury. He has thrown for 517 yards and three touchdowns this year and is questionable for Thursday’s game. Tyler Vitt has filled in for Jones and has thrown for 518 yards and five touchdowns this year. Jones is also the team’s leading rusher with 189 yards. The Bobcats have been struggling on defense most of the year, allowing 32.6 points and 397 yards per game thus far.
College Football Betting Trends
Georgia Southern
Georgia Southern has hit the under in six of its last seven Thursday games and in 10 of its last 13 games following a win.
Texas State
Texas State has hit the over in six straight home games and in five of its last six conference games.
Prediction:
The total isn’t being set high, but I like the under in this one. These two have hit the under in their last two encounters as well. Georgia Southern isn’t a team that should heavily overwhelm Texas State with its primary run game. The Eagles will be mostly ball control and eat up clock on offense. Texas State just doesn’t have a lot of playmakers on offense, especially if Jones is out. I don’t expect much from the Bobcats when it comes to scoring.
College Football Prediction: Georgia Southern/Texas State Under 49.5
