Jayhawks should challenge Hill, Horned Frogs
There’s a running joke around the Big 12 that hinges on Kansas’ reputation as the league’s resident tomato can. But can David Beaty’s program rise off the canvas vs. a vulnerable TCU group?
The Jayhawks and Horned Frogs clash today, with a 12 p.m. ET kickoff at Memorial Stadium. According to handicappers at online sports book BetDSI, Gary Patterson’s team enters Lawrence as a 28-point favorite. The over/under is 62.
After last weekend’s 52-46 loss to Oklahoma, TCU owns an ordinary 3-2 record. Key contributors Austin Schlottmann (foot) and wide receiver KaVontae Turpin (knee) won’t suit up this afternoon, either, placing even more pressure on dynamic signal-caller Kenny Hill. The Texas A&M transfer has thrown for 1,936 yards and 11 touchdowns in his first five starts. Yet he’s also susceptible to costly interceptions, as we saw against the Sooners.
KU’s just 1-15 in two campaigns under Beaty. Still, the squad usually finds a way to make the Horned Frogs uncomfortable. The two schools have battled on four occasions since 2012, with each meeting being decided by 14 points or fewer. TCU boasts a combined winning margin of 34 points in those tilts.

We’re fully aware that Jayhawks continue to pursue their first conference victory in nearly two years. Nonetheless, the emergence of Ryan Willis finally gives them some stability at the quarterback position. Considering the visiting bunch’s inability to get stops, too, anticipate a rollicking offensive affair in the Midwest.
