Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Rams are 7.5-point favorites to beat the Seahawks. The total, meanwhile, sits at 50 points. As of this writing, 64% of the public betting tickets are on the Rams to cover the point spread.
Los Angeles Rams
Rams ILB Mark Barron (ankle) is expected to make his season debut in Week 5. The Rams never publicly revealed the extent of Barron's injury, but it was likely a high ankle sprain. Coach Sean McVay did hint Wednesday that Barron will be eased back in, likely not playing a full complement of snaps. In Barron's absence, the Rams have been leaky in run defense and tight end coverage.
Chris Carson (hip) wasn't listed on the Seahawks' final injury report for Week 5 against the Rams. Carson surprised us all by being inactive last week but that won't happen this time around. He'll form a committee with Mike Davis, who went off for 124 yards and two touchdowns in Carson's absence last week. Disappointing rookie Rashaad Penny will be fighting for scraps behind both of them.
NFL Betting Trends
The Rams are 3-8 against the spread in their last 11 games played in Seattle.
The Seahawks are 2-5 against the spread in their last seven home games.
I realize this Seattle defense is a shell of its former self, especially now that Earl Thomas has been lost for the season with a fractured lower leg. That said, 7.5 points is a lot to lay on a road team visiting Seattle. The Seahawks still have Russell Wilson and they get back Doug Baldwin this week. Perhaps the Rams will be reading their own press clippings too much and this one winds up being closer than oddsmakers think.
