Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Sooners are 7-point favorites to beat the Longhorns. The total, meanwhile, sits at 60 points. As of this writing, 57% of the public betting tickets wagered on this matchup are on the Sooners.
Texas Longhorns
Texas freshman RB Keaontay Ingram has “clearly” become the Longhorns’ top option at running back, according to Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman. Ingram’s ascension to undisputed RB1 duties has been delayed a bit because he’s been banged up for much of this season. He suffered a knee injury in the Longhorns’ Sept. 8 win over Tulsa and then a a hip pointer in the Sept. 22 win over TCU. Despite the injuries, Ingram has clearly been UT’s best back. He’s averaging 6.1 yards per carry while Tre Watson and Daniel Young are both around 4.0. Herman was asked if Ingram was ready to get 18-20 carries as the featured back this weekend against Oklahoma. Herman responded, “Yeah, I think he’s ready.”
Oklahoma Sooners
Oklahoma junior WR Marquise Brown snagged five balls for 132 yards and two scores in Saturday’s 66-33 win over Baylor. Brown (5’10/168) once again functioned as Kyler Murray’s go-to receiver. Outside of last week’s game against Army, the funky near-upset where Brown was held without a catch, he’s had a minimum of 88 receiving yards and one touchdown in the other four games. Hollywood and his Oklahoma Sooners have a big rivalry game on deck against Texas.
Betting Trends
Texas
The Longhorns are a perfect 5-0 against the spread in their last five games versus the Sooners.
Oklahoma
The Sooners are just 2-8 at the betting window in their last 10 neutral site games.
Prediction
There’s no reason to bet against Herman when his team is an underdog. He is now 9-1 against the spread as a dog in his coaching career and Texas has covered each of the last five meetings between these two Big 12 programs, as noted above. QB Sam Ehlinger has played well and continues to improve, although this game is all about defense. Texas has allowed a combined 44 points in wins over USC, TCU and Kansas State.
