Vanderbilt Commodores
Vanderbilt redshirt junior RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn ran for 146 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries in a 31-27 victory on Saturday over Tennessee State. This is Vaughn’s first game with over 100 yards this season with the majority coming on a 78-yard touchdown run in the 3rd quarter. He now has 360 yards and five touchdowns on 56 carries (6.4 yards per carry). Despite having just 9-to-11 carries in the first four games, Vaughn racked up 17 in his one. He will likely continue to receive more touches next week against No. 2 Georgia.
Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia freshman QB Justin Fields ran for 45 yards and two touchdowns on five carries in Saturday’s 38-12 win over Tennessee Fields (6’3/225) made the most of his limited opportunities, as he usually does, in today’s game. The five-star only threw the ball twice, but he finished with two impressive touchdown runs of 12 and 15 yards. The freshman quarterback is still behind sophomore Jake Fromm, who had 185 scoreless yards today, but Fields athleticism is apparent whenever he steps on the field. The Bulldogs get Vanderbilt next Saturday.
Betting Trends
Vanderbilt
The Commodores are just 1-7-1 against the spread in their last nine conference games.
Texas A&M
The Bulldogs are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games overall.
Prediction
The Commodores struggled with Tennessee State last week but that narrow victory has created some value on Vandy. With Georgia coming up, it’s plausible the Commodores got caught looking ahead last week. I expect a much better performance from Vandy tonight against a Georgia team that hasn’t looked as impressive on defense as it did a year ago. The Commodores are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games versus the Bulldogs.
