Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Tigers are 2.5-point favorites to beat the Gators. The total, meanwhile, sits at 44.5 points. As of this writing, 71% of the public betting tickets wagered on this matchup are on the Tigers.
LSU Tigers
LSU redshirt sophomore CB Greedy Williams (undisclosed) wore a non-contact jersey during Wednesday’s practice. Williams (6’3/184) did not practice on Monday as the team works him along in cautionary fashion in advance of Saturday’s game against Florida. We’ve not yet seen any indication that the stud cornerback is in serious danger of sitting versus the Gators. On his updated big board, Draftwire’s Luke Easterling ranks Williams as the No. 7 overall draft-eligible prospect for the 2019 class.
Florida Gators
Florida redshirt sophomore QB Feleipe’ Franks completed 22-of-31 passes for 217 yards with an interception in a 13-6 win over Mississippi State on Saturday. Good enough. Franks turned the ball over once, but for the most part, he was on time with the football, and kept the chains moving just enough to take advantage of Mississippi State’s putrid offensive effort. Franks doesn’t wow, but he clearly has made progress as a quarterback in 2018. He’s going to have to be much, much better next week if they have a chance to beat LSU next Saturday.
Betting Trends
LSU
The Tigers are now a perfect 8-0 against the spread in their last eight conference games and are 4-0 against the number in their last four road games.
Florida
The Gators are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games overall but are just 2-5 ATS in their last seven conference matchups.
Prediction
This is a true coin flip, as both defenses are elite and both offenses have shown stark improvements from a year ago. The difference might come down to the play of the quarterbacks and while Franks has taken a small step in his development, Joe Burrow has had some big moments in clutch situations this year. At some point the balloon will pop for LSU but the Tigers have the mojo right now and I’ll ride with them this week.
College Football Prediction: LSU Tigers -2.5
