Temple vs. Memphis Prediction

College Football Week 6 Predictions: Temple vs. Memphis 10/6/16

Can Memphis and Temple find the offense to hit a lofty over when they meet up tonight at 8PM ET on ESPN?

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Memphis is the clear favorite at home, as the Tigers are getting odds of -10 points against Temple. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 61.5 points. Temple has won two of three meetings with Memphis and the two have hit the under in their last two encounters.

Memphis is coming off a 48-28 loss at Ole Miss last Saturday. The Tigers fell to 3-1 on the season in the loss and they are 2-2 with the over/under total this season. Memphis has been heavy on the offense this season, averaging 45.8 points and 477 yards per game. Despite the loss of Paxton Lynch, Memphis is still moving right along. Riley Ferguson has filled in nicely, throwing for 1,186 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. The Tigers also have a steady ground game behind Doroland Dorceus and Patrick Taylor Jr. Defensively, Memphis is giving up 18.8 points and 371.3 yards per game.

Bet on Temple vs. Memphis

Temple is coming off a 45-20 win over SMU this past weekend to move to 3-2 on the season. The Owls have hit the over in three straight games but are 3-2 with the over on the year. Temple is averaging 34.2 points and 350.2 yards per game on offense. Like the Tigers, the Owls have a solid ground game. Ryquell Armstead and Jahad Thomas have combined for 513 yards and 12 touchdowns this year. Temple’s pass game is far less talented than Memphis, however, as Phillip Walker has thrown for 970 yards and six touchdowns with seven interceptions. The Temple defense is pretty solid, holding opponents to just 20.4 points and 319.4 yards per game, but they have been struggling to stop the run, allowing 162.8 yards per game.

On paper I would normally like the over here, but one factor to consider is that both teams just played on Saturday and are on a shortened week. That usually leads to sloppy play on offense as teams are out of whack and unprepared. The Temple defense should be able to compete with Memphis while the Tigers shouldn’t have too much trouble limiting the Owls offense as well. Look for the under to hit in this game because of that.
