LSU looking like a contender
The LSU Tigers are putting up big numbers this year on their way to a 4-0 start to the season. LSU is coming off a 66-38 win at Vanderbilt last weekend. The Tigers are 3-1 against the spread and 4-0 with the over this year.
LSU has an offense that nobody has been able to keep up with in 2019. The Tigers are averaging 57.8 points and 563.5 yards per game this year. Defensively, LSU is allowing 23.3 points and 320 yards per contest. Joe Burrow is an early Heisman contender by throwing for 1,520 yards and 17 touchdowns this year. He has three receivers with over 300 yards. Ja’Marr Chase is leading the way with 20 catches for 397 yards and five touchdowns. Clyde Edwards-Helaire is the leading rusher with 288 yards and five scores.
Aggies heating up
After losing its season opener by three at Wake Forest, Utah State has rattled off three straight wins, including a victory over Colorado State last weekend. The Aggies are 3-1 overall, 3-1 against the spread and 2-2 with the over/under total.
Utah State has been able to put up a lot of offense this season, averaging 38.5 points and 533 yards per game. Defensively, Utah State is allowing 21.5 points and 377.5 yards per outing. Quarterback Jordan Love has thrown for 1,207 yards and six touchdowns this year, but also has five interceptions. Siaosi Mariner is his leading receiver with 22 catches for 305 yards and two scores. Jaylen Warren and Gerold Bright have combined for 636 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
The Tigers are 6-0-1 with the over in their last seven games overall and 5-0-1 with the over in their last six non-conference games.
Utah State is 20-7 with the over in its last 27 games in October and 6-1 with the over in their last seven non-conference games.
Both teams are putting up a lot of offense, but I think Utah State is likely to hit a wall against the LSU defense. The Aggies only put up 17 at San Diego State and LSU has more physicality and speed then the Aztecs. While LSU’s scoring pace on offense is likely to lead to some breakdowns on defense, I don’t think Utah State is going to score enough to hit the over in this game. LSU will put up big points, but I don’t think they are going to give up enough.
