Penn State gets back to dominance
The Nittany Lions dominated Maryland on the road to start Big Ten play last weekend, 59-0. Penn State is off to a 4-0 start overall and the Nittany Lions are 1-0 in the Big Ten, 3-1 against the spread and 2-2 with the over/under total.
Penn State is dominant on both sides of the ball this season. The Nittany Lions are putting up 50 points and 509.5 yards per game on offense while giving up 7.5 points and 274.5 yards per game on defense. Sean Clifford has thrown for 1,179 yards and nine touchdowns to lead the offense. He also has rushed for 167 yards and a score. Journey Brown is the team’s leading rusher with 196 yards and three touchdowns, but he is questionable to play this week with a knee injury. KJ Hamler is the team’s leading receiver with 16 catches for 353 yards and three touchdowns.
Purdue drops another
Purdue got Big Ten play started last weekend and suffered a 38-31 loss at home to Minnesota. The Boilermakers are 1-3 on the season, 0-1 in the Big Ten, 1-3 against the spread and 3-1 with the over.
The Boilermakers are giving up 32.5 points and 451 yards per game on defense. The Purdue offense is putting up 29.3 points and 419.3 yards per game on offense this season, but the Boilers took a big hit last weekend. With Elijah Sindelar out for the season with a collarbone injury and now stud receiver Rondale Moore is out with a knee injury. Moore has 387 receiving yards and two touchdowns while Sindelar has thrown for 978 yards and nine touchdowns. Jack Plummer has taken over at QB. He has thrown for 426 yards and three touchdowns this year. King Doerue is the team’s leading rusher, but has just 131 yards and two touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Penn State
Penn State has hit the under in four straight conference games, but is 8-2 with the over in their last 10 games following a win of more than 20 points.
Purdue
The Boilermakers have hit the over in five of their last six games on grass, but are 10-3 with the under in their last 13 road games.
Prediction:
These two have hit the over in their last two meetings, but haven’t collided since 2016. The Boilermakers are beat up and going to have problems putting up much offense on the road. They just don’t have the playmakers. Penn State got back to being dominant on offense last week at Maryland. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Penn State have another 60-point outing this week and hit the over on its own. Hopefully we can count on Purdue to score a few times.
