Irish find a way past Virginia
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are coming off a 35-20 win over Virginia at home last weekend to bounce back from its loss at Georgia. The Irish are now 3-1 on the season, 3-1 against the spread and 2-2 with the over/under total.
Notre Dame has a pretty solid defense, allowing just 18.5 points and 355.8 yards per game this year. The offense is putting up 38.3 points and 414.3 yards per contest. Ian Book has thrown for 993 yards and eight touchdowns while rushing for 134 yards and two scores. Tony Jones Jr. is the leading rusher with 279 yards and four scores while Chase Claypool is the leading receiver with 21 catches for 286 yards and two touchdowns. Claypool is questionable for the game with an ankle injury, but reports are trending to him playing.
Bowling Green gets lit up
After winning its opening game of the season, Bowling Green has lost three straight, including a 62-20 loss at Kent State two weeks ago. The Falcons are 1-3 on the season, 1-3 against the spread and 3-1 with the under.
Usually known for being an offensive power of a MAC squad, Bowling Green has struggled on offense this year. The Falcons are averaging 18.3 points and 352.5 yards per game while the defense is allowing 38 points and 448.5 yards per contest. Darius Wade is leading the offense with 664 passing yards and three touchdowns while Quintin Morris has 16 receptions for 218 yards. Davon Jones is the team’s leading rusher with 205 yards and a score.
College Football Betting Trends
The Fighting Irish have covered the spread in four straight home games and 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 following a win.
The Falcons are 1-7 against the spread in their last eight against a winning team and 2-14 ATS in their last 16 non-conference games.
This is an awfully big spread for the Irish to cover. While Notre Dame clearly has the talent to do so, the Irish are coming off back-to-back games against ranked teams that were really physical. This week is a good chance for the Irish to heal up some bangs and bruises and not really push their foot on the gas pedal. Bowling Green won’t be a challenge to Notre Dame at 75 percent of their ability. With the spread so large and the motivation of the Irish questionable, I think BG can do enough to cover the spread. Whether that is makes a few stops or get a few scores, I will take the Falcons and the plethora of points.
