San Jose State coming off loss
San Jose State is coming off a 41-24 loss at Air Force last weekend in its conference opener. The Spartans are 2-2 on the season, 0-1 in the MWC, 2-2 against the spread and 3-1 with the under.
The Spartans have struggled defensively this season, allowing just 29.3 points and 456.5 yards per game. Offensively, San Jose State is putting up 26.5 points and 402.8 yards per contest. Quarterback Josh Love is leading the team with 1,013 yards and five touchdowns passing while Tre Walker is his top target with 18 catches for 230 yards. Nick Nash has rushed for 203 yards and two scores while also throwing for 126 yards of his own.
Lobos edged by Liberty
New Mexico is set to get Mountain West Conference play started tonight. They come into this game at 2-2 overall after a 17-10 loss at Liberty last week. The Lobos are 2-2 against the spread and 3-1 with the over.
The Lobos are also struggling defensively, giving up 41.5 points and 526 yards per game thus far in 2019, including 379 passing yards per outing. Offensively, New Mexico is averaging 29.5 points and 452 yards per game. Tevaka Tuioti has thrown for 626 yards and four touchdowns this year at QB. He also has rushed for 121 yards. Ahmari Davis is leading the ground attack with 361 yards and four touchdowns while Jordan Kress is the leading receiver with four catches for 169 yards and two scores.
College Football Betting Trends
San Jose State
The Spartans are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven conference games and 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a loss.
New Mexico
The Lobos are just 1-6 against the spread in their last seven conference games and 1-4 ATS in their last five road games.
Prediction:
San Jose State has won three of the last four in this series and covered the spread in four straight encounters. The matchup looks good for San Jose State tonight. New Mexico is a mess against the pass and the Spartans are putting up 285 yards per game through the air. That should open the door for a lot of big plays in the pass game tonight. New Mexico has a capable offense, but not one that is able to make up for its defense. I don’t see the Lobos being able to keep pace with the Spartans tonight.
