Texas A&M vs. Alabama, 10/3/20 College Football Week 5 Betting Predictions

Arguably the best matchup on college football’s Week 5 slate will take place at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa where No. 2 Alabama will host No. 13 Texas A&M at 3:30 p.m. ET. Will the Aggies hang with the Tide as a sizable underdog?

Game Snapshot

143 Texas A&M Aggies (+18) at 144 Alabama Crimson Tide (-18); o/u 53

Texas A&M Aggies Game Notes

Texas A&M senior QB Kellen Mond completed 17-of-28 passes for 189 yards with a touchdown in a 17-12 in on Saturday over Vanderbilt. This was a bad offensive football game. Mond did just enough to get the win but the 6-foot-3, 217-pound signal-caller was not efficient against one of the lower SEC programs. He also ran seven times for 18 yards in the contest, with a long gain of 13. Mond will tantalize with his dual-threat ability, but that really wasn't on display against the Commodores on Saturday. He'll have to be considerably better next weekend when the Aggies take on the Crimson Tide and Alabama.

Alabama Crimson Tide Game Notes

ESPN's Todd McShay writes that in the prospective 2021 running backs class, Alabama senior Najee Harris is "the one [he sees] rising in the early going." "Harris ran hard and stayed in his lane on Saturday (against Missouri). And he looks improved in pass protection and remains underrated as a pass-catcher, McShay wrote of the 6-foot-2, 230-pound senior standout. The analyst notes that he was "previously concerned [Harris] danced too much, looking for the home run." Something which wasn't the case over the weekend and frankly, hasn't been the case in Najee's game (by and large) during his time in Tuscaloosa. He has always played with far more Derrick Henry than Cam Akers. Given the direction NFL teams are now taking with running back draft slots, a Day 1 selection is probably a bridge too far for Harris. We would be none too surprised if he was selected early on Day 2, though.

Texas A&M vs. Alabama Betting Prediction

The Aggies are 10-2 against the spread in their last 12 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game, are 8-2 against the number in their last 10 games after allowing less than 275 total yards in their previous game and are 4-1 at the betting window in their last five conference games. The Crimson Tide, meanwhile, are 1-6 against the spread in their last seven home games when facing a team with a wining road record, are 3-7 against the number in their last 10 conference games and are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games coming off a win.
