Iowa off to perfect start
The Iowa Hawkeyes are off to a 4-0 start to the season thanks to a 48-3 win over Middle Tennessee at home last week. The Hawkeyes are 1-0 in the Big Ten, 2-2 against the spread and 2-1-1 with the under.
Iowa has been a dominant defensive team this year, allowing just 8.5 points and 251 yards per game. Offensively, Iowa is putting up 33.5 points and 465 yards per contest. Nate Stanley has thrown for 965 yards and eight touchdowns without an interception this season. Mekhi Sargent is leading the ground attack with 299 yards. Iowa has three rushers over 200 yards this season. Ihmir Smith-Marsette is the team’s leading receiver with 15 catches for 254 yards and three touchdowns.
Wolverines bounce back
After getting beat up at Wisconsin two weeks ago, Michigan bounced back last week at home with a 52-0 win over Rutgers. The Wolverines are now 3-1 on the season, 1-1 in the Big Ten, 1-3 against the spread and 3-1 with the over.
Michigan has been pretty good on defense this year as well, allowing just 19.3 points and 295.8 yards per game. The offense is putting up 32.5 points and 392 yards per game thus far. Shea Patterson has thrown for 905 yards and six touchdowns to lead the offense. Ronnie Bell has been his top target with 17 catches for 263 yards. Zach Charbonnet is the team’s leading rusher with 218 yards and three touchdowns. Jordan Glasgow is leading the defense with 27 tackles and a couple of sacks.
College Football Betting Trends
Iowa has hit the over in eight of its last nine road games and in eight of its last 11 conference games.
The Wolverines have hit the over in 10 of their last 12 games on fieldturf and in five of their last six conference games.
Iowa has been a problem for Michigan, winning five of the last six meetings. These two have hit the under in three of their last four meetings as well. Iowa has a physical defense that is strong against the run. That has been a problem for Michigan in the Jim Harbaugh era. The Wolverines haven’t been able to match physicality against teams like Iowa. I think the Wolverines will have another struggle on offense this week. Iowa’s offense isn’t terribly dynamic, so the Hawkeyes are likely to struggle on the road against the Michigan defense as well. Look for the total to be low in this one.
