Notre Dame going with Book
After some lackluster offensive showings in the first three games of the year, the Irish broke out last week in a 56-27 win at Wake Forest. ND is now 4-0 on the season with a 2-2 mark against the spread and a 3-1 mark with the under. The Irish are just 3-6 against the spread in their last nine games overall.
The big offensive outburst last week upped the Notre Dame season averages to 31.5 points and 415.5 yards per game. Ian Book was made the starter and he didn’t disappoint. He has thrown for 338 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions this season. He has a solid ground game behind him from Tony Jones Jr. and Jafar Armstrong, who have combined for 508 yards and eight touchdowns. Defensively, the Irish are holding opponents to just 19.3 points and 368.5 yards per game this year.
Stanford manages win at Oregon
Stanford improved to 4-0 on the season with a 38-31 OT win at Oregon last week thanks to some poor coaching decisions by the Ducks. Stanford is 3-1 against the spread while going 3-1 with the under this year. The Cardinal have covered the spread in six of their last seven games, dating back to the 2017 season.
The Cardinal are led by their defense, which are holding opponents to just 13.5 points and 356.8 yards per game this season. On offense, Stanford is averaging only 29 points and 368.3 yards per game. Many were expecting a Heisman-type season from Bryce Love in 2018, but he hasn’t been able to get started. Love has just 254 yards on 59 carries with two touchdowns. K.J. Costello has thrown for 1,056 yards and 10 touchdowns and three interceptions.
College Football Betting Trends
Notre Dame
Notre Dame is just 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight against winning teams.
Stanford
Stanford is 6-1 against the spread in its last seven against winning teams, but just 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games following a cover.
Prediction:
Stanford has won three straight and covered the spread in two straight in this series. However, the Cardinal didn’t look terribly dominant on defense last week against Oregon and still struggled offensively against the Ducks. If not for Oregon blowing the game in the fourth, we would all be singing a different story on the Cardinal. Book has given Notre Dame a boost on offense and I expect the Irish to be able to move the ball well tonight and pick up a cover.
