Louisville not moving the ball
Louisville is off to a 2-2 with an 0-1 mark in the ACC. The wins were over Western Kentucky and Indiana State, but the losses were each by more than three scores to Alabama and Virginia. The Cardinals are 0-4 against the spread while hitting the under in three of four this year. As a program, Louisville has failed to cover in five straight.
The Cardinals are averaging just 17 points and 284.3 yards per game this year on offense, which is much lower than usual. The Cards have used two QB’s during these struggles. Jawon Pass has thrown for 454 yards and two touchdowns with five interceptions while Malik Cunningham has 198 yards and one touchdown. Cunningham is the leading rusher on the team with 209 yards and a score. Defensively, Louisville is giving up 25.5 points and 389.8 yards per game. Their run defense is giving up nearly 200 yards per game.
FSU ready to break out?
Florida State finally had a comfortable win last week, beating Northern Illinois 37-19. FSU is now 2-2 on the season, 1-3 against the spread and 2-2 with the over/under total. They have lost both of their ACC games this year by a combined score of 54-10 to Virginia Tech and Syracuse.
The Seminoles are putting up just 20.8 points and 373.5 yards per game on offense this year. Deondre Francois has thrown or 1,083 yards and five touchdowns, but also has five interceptions. On the ground, Cam Akers is the leading rusher with 274 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, FSU is giving up 24.8 points and 376.5 yards per game. Their run defense has been solid, allowing just 97.5 yards per game.
College Football Betting Trends
Louisville is just 2-9 against the spread in their last 11 home games and 0-7 ATS in their last seven games in September.
Florida State is 1-8-2 against the spread in their last 11 ACC games, but the Seminoles have covered the spread in six straight following a cover.
This is really a puzzling game. Florida State hasn’t looked good against any opponent of merit and Louisville has struggled on offense, which is usually the last issue the Cardinals have. In college football, quarterback play tends to mean everything. The Cardinals are not getting it from either of their two options while Francois has started to show signs of life. If he can avoid turnovers, FSU can actually start to turn the corner. I will take my chances with FSU on the road.
College Football Prediction: Florida State -6.5
