Minnesota vs. Penn State Pick
Can Minnesota go on the road and stay unbeaten when it takes on Penn State this Saturday at 3:30PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Penn State is favored at home, as the Nittany Lions are getting odds of -3 points against the Golden Gophers. The over/under total for the game has been set at 55.5 points. Penn State has won four of the last five against Minnesota and went 3-1-1 against the spread in those five games.
Minnesota is off to a 3-0 start thanks to a 31-24 win over Colorado State. The Gophers are just 1-2 against the spread and making their first road trip of 2016. Minnesota is averaging 39.7 points and 430 yards per game on offense while allowing just 25 points and 347.3 yards per game on defense, but that is against lesser competition. Mitch Leidner has thrown for 599 yards and four touchdowns to lead the offense while Rodney Smith has run for 298 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
Penn State is coming off a 49-10 loss at Michigan last week in which it was thoroughly dominated. The Nittany Lions are now just 2-2 on the season and 1-3 against the spread. In the loss to Michigan, Penn State allowed 515 yards to the Wolverines, including 326 rushing yards. The offense was held to 191 yards of offense. For the season, Penn State is averaging just 338.5 yards per game. Trace McSorley has thrown for 949 yards and five touchdowns to lead the offense while Saquon Barkley has run for 317 yards and six touchdowns.
Penn State is favored at home this week, but the Nittany Lions really haven’t shown much this season. Minnesota hasn’t played a lot of great teams, but they have still taken care of their business. Running the ball should be something the Gophers can continue to do against this Penn State defense while the Nittany Lions may continue to struggle behind a lackluster offensive line.
