Florida Gators Game Notes
The Athletic’s Dane Brugler writes that Florida redshirt senior QB Kyle Trask’s draft stock could “steadily rise” over the course of the fall season. Before anybody gets all Joe Burrow hype on this one, Brugler stresses that Trask’s chances of a monumental leap forward ala Burrow in 2019 are “slim to none.” An understandable enough stance. But the analyst does like the 6-foot-5, 240-pounder to potentially build on his stock upcoming, noting that Trask is “cerebral and efficient with his reads before and after the snap.” The redshirt senior took over starting for Feleipe’ Franks last season after Franks suffered a gruesome ankle dislocation early in the campaign. He went on to throw for 2,941 yards with a 25/7 TD/INT ratio. Brugler believes that Trask could potentially end up the first senior signal-caller off the board come the spring draft. Florida is set to open its 2020 season against Ole Miss on Saturday.
Ole Miss Rebels Game Notes
Ole Miss redshirt sophomore QB Matt Corral and sophomore John Rhys-Plumlee are both expected to play in Saturday’s game against Florida. Corral (6’1/206) looks to have pushed ahead of Plumlee during preseason camp, but given that the quarterbacks have vastly different skill sets, it’s possible both could find their lanes on Saturday without stepping on each other too much. Corral is the traditional pocket-passer between the two, while Plumless brings less with his arm but far more as a running threat. The flow of Saturday’s contest figures to determine just how much we see of both quarterbacks. It’s not uncommon for coaches to claim that two quarterbacks will play in a given game, only for one to ultimately dominate snaps after kickoff.
