According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Longhorns are 3.5-point home underdogs versus the Cowboys after opening as a 4-point dog. As for the total, it opened at 62 and has dropped down to 58.5.
Texas played uninspiring in a 38-3 loss to Notre Dame in Week 1, rebounded to beat an overmatched Rice team 42-28 in Week 2, then loss a heartbreaker last week 45-44 to Cal. More importantly than the final score last week was the emergence of redshirt freshman quarterback Jerrod Heard, who breathed life into a once dormant Texas offense.
Heard completed 20-of-31 attempts for 364 yards with one interception, while also rushing 24 times for 163 yards and three touchdowns. His 45-yard run with under two minutes to play should have given Texas an opportunity to force overtime, but a failed extra point attempt cost the Longhorns an opportunity at a win.
Heard will put plenty of pressure on a good Oklahoma State defense, but a defense that has yet to be truly tested. Take the points with the Longhorns.
