Virginia gets scare from ODU
The Virginia football team may have been looking ahead to this game last weekend when it got a scare from Old Dominion. The Cavs got a 28-17 win at home, but were a 27-point favorite. UVA is now 4-0 on the season, 2-1-1 against the spread and 2-2 with the over/under total.
UVA has been defensive-reliant this year, as the Cavs are giving up just 18 points and 263.8 yards per contest. The offense is putting up 35.3 points and 370 yards per contest. Bryce Perkins is the team leader with 843 passing yards and six touchdowns while rushing for 193 yards and two scores. Wayne Taulapapa has added 152 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Joe Reed has 23 catches for 215 yards and three scores. Jordan Mack is leading the defense with 29 tackles and five sacks.
Irish edged by Georgia
Notre Dame had a hard-fought effort, but still came up short in a 23-17 loss at Georgia this past weekend. The Fighting Irish fell to 2-1 on the year in the loss. They are 2-1 against the spread and 2-1 with the under.
The Irish are putting up 39.3 points and 445 yards per game this season, but their defense has limited opponents to 18 points and 361.7 yards per contest. Ian Book has thrown for 828 yards and eight touchdowns while rushing for 145 yards and two scores to lead the offense. Chase Claypool has caught 15 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns while Tony Jones Jr. is the leading rusher with 148 yards.

Prediction:
These two last met in 2015 with Virginia covering as a 13.5-point underdog in a 34-27 loss to Notre Dame. UVA was clearly in a trap game last week, which helped lead to a poor showing. That won’t be the case for Notre Dame. The Irish could be beat up from the Georgia game, but they should feel pretty good about themselves after taking Georgia to the brink. Notre Dame showed it’s a legit contender if it can win out and I think the Irish will be motivated to take care of business against Virginia. The Cavs just don’t have the athletes on offense to compete with ND. The defense may be competitive early, but the Irish will take over late.
College Football Week 5 Prediction: Notre Dame -11.5
