Tech in need of a win

Georgia Tech has lost two straight since a 41-0 win over Alcorn State to open the season. The Yellow Jackets have suffered a 49-38 loss at South Florida and a 24-19 loss at Pittsburgh over the last two weeks. They have also failed to cover in all three games this year and have failed to cover in five straight overall.

Tech is putting up strong numbers on offense this year by their usual powerful running game. The Jackets are averaging 32.7 points and 510.3 yards per game so far, including 392.7 rushing yards per contest. TaQuon Marshall is leading the rushing attack with 293 yards and four touchdowns while also throwing for 353 yards and two scores. Jordan Mason is adding 274 rushing yards. Defensively, Georgia Tech is allowing 24.3 points and 302.3 yards per game, including just 156 passing yards per game.

Clemson unbeaten, but not covering

The Clemson Tigers are off to a 3-0 start to the season following a 38-7 win over Georgia Southern last weekend. The Tigers have failed to cover the spread in all three games so far while hitting the under in two of three. Clemson has failed to cover in its last four, dating back to the national championship game.

As in previous season, Clemson has been dominant on defense this year. The Tigers are giving up just 13.3 points and 268 yards per game. Their run defense is allowing just 89.3 yards per game thus far. On offense, Clemson is averaging 38 points and 513 yards per game. The Tigers are utilizing two quarterbacks as Trevor Lawrence has thrown for 424 yards and five touchdowns while Kelly Bryant has 405 passing yards with two scores and 125 rushing yards with two more scores. Travis Etienne is the leading rusher with 269 yards and four touchdowns.

College Football Betting Trends

Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech is 7-2 against the spread in its last nine home games, but just 1-3-1 ATS in its last five conference games.

Clemson is 3-8 against the spread in its last 11 games against a team with a losing record and 1-4 ATS in their last five games in September.

The spread isn’t overwhelming for Clemson and I think the Tigers can cover. Their run defense should be able to contain the Georgia Tech offense. If the Yellow Jackets can’t run, it is going to be really hard for them to win. Clemson has the ability to really lock them up and then slowly work its way down the field on offense.
