Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Tigers are 30-point favorites to beat the Razorbacks. The total, meanwhile, sits at 55.5 points. As of this writing, 60% of the public betting tickets wagered on this matchup are on the Tigers.
Arkansas Razorbacks
Arkansas HC Chad Morris named junior QB Ty Storey the starter at quarterback for the Razorbacks. “We want to settle on someone,” Morris told reporters. Storey and Cole Kelley have been co-starters for the first three games of the year, and while both have had at least brief moments of competence, it’s been mostly ugly for the 1-2 Razorbacks. The clarity of knowing that he’s the starter may help Storey, but he’s going to have to play much, much better if Arkansas is going to be competitive this year. A tough contest against Auburn comes on Saturday.
Auburn Tigers
Auburn redshirt junior QB Jarrett Stidham completed 16-of-28 passes for 194 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in a 22-21 loss to LSU on Saturday. An ugly day for Stidham, as the tough LSU secondary and linebackers were able to close down passing lanes all day. His first interception was hurt by an Auburn receiver not coming back to the ball, but his second was a poor read that ended an Auburn drive and got LSU back in the football game. His touchdown was a four-yarder to Darius Slayton that gave Auburn a 21-10 lead with a little under 11 minutes left in the third quarter. They didn’t score a point the rest of the game. Auburn will look to rebound against Arkansas next Saturday.
Betting Trends
Arkansas
The Razorbacks are just 4-11-2 against the spread in their last 17 games overall and are 3-9 against the number in their last 12 games versus an opponent with a winning record.
Auburn
The Tigers are 1-4 against the number in their last five home games and 1-4 against the spread in their last five games overall.
Prediction
Assuming Auburn is more pissed than depressed following its loss to LSU last week, this should be a bloodbath. Stidham struggled last Saturday against LSU but the Tigers boast a tough secondary and a linebacker corps that can shut down passing lanes. Arkansas? Not so much. The Razorbacks don’t have the talent on either side of the ball to hang with the Tigers and while this is a big number, this Arkansas team got destroyed by North Texas last week at home and couldn’t beat a hapless Colorado State team the week before. Again, if the Tigers are motivated, this one will ugly.
