Public Betting Trends

According to the latest oddsmakers, Clemson is the heavy favorite in this game, as the Tigers are getting odds of -41.5 points against Charlotte. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 62 points. The public betting currently has 67 percent going on Clemson as the heavy favorite. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our NCAAF Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.

Clemson stays unbeaten

Clemson is off to a 3-0 start and the defense has played very well, including in a 41-6 win over Syracuse last week. The Tigers are 2-1 against the spread, but are 2-1 with the under as the offense hasn’t been quite as crisp as people anticipated.

The Tigers are putting up 39 points and 544.3 yards per game on offense this year while the defense is giving up only 10 points and 256.7 yards per contest. Travis Etienne is leading the offense with 334 rushing yards and three touchdowns, but he is dealing with a neck injury that has him questionable to play today. Trevor Lawrence has thrown for 831 yards and five touchdowns, but he also has five interceptions. Tee Higgins is the leading receiver with 15 catches for 318 yards. Isaiah Simmons is leading the defense with 27 tackles and two sacks.

Charlotte hoping to compete

Charlotte has looked competitive early in the season against some lesser competition. The 49ers are off to a 2-1 start overall with a 2-1 mark against the spread. They have managed to hit the over in all three games.

Thus far in 2019, Charlotte is putting up 47.3 points and 522.3 yards per game on offense while giving up 33.7 points and 313 yards per game on defense. Benny LeMay has been leading the offense with 351 rushing yards and four touchdowns while Chris Reynolds has thrown for 587 yards and seven touchdowns. Micaleous Elder is the team’s leading receiver with 201 yards on 11 catches. Alex Highsmith is leading the defense with 16 tackles and four sacks.

College Football Betting Trends

Clemson is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 against a winning team, but just 2-5 ATS in their last seven games in September.

The 49ers are 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games, but just 5-12 ATS in their last 17 non-conference games.

Lawrence hasn’t looked great, but Clemson’s defense has. The Tigers have held far better teams to 14 points or less this season and that should open the door for a big cover today. The Tigers can still score in bunches, even if their leading rusher doesn’t play today. I think Charlotte will have trouble scoring at all, while Clemson should push for another 50-point outing at home.
