Public Betting Trends
According to the latest oddsmakers, Ole Miss is the slight favorite at home, as the Rebels are getting odds of -2.5 points against Cal. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 41.5 points. The public betting currently has 64 percent going on Ole Miss as the home favorite. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our NCAAF Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Rebels struggling to cover
Ole Miss improved to 2-1 on the season last weekend thanks to a 40-29 win over Southeastern Louisiana. The Rebels are just 1-2 against the spread while going 2-1 with the under.
Mississippi is a stronger defensive team than it is offensive. The Rebels are giving up just 20.3 points and 366.7 yards per game defensively while putting up 27 points and 371.7 yards per game on offense. Quarterback Matt Corral has thrown for 578 yards and four touchdowns to lead the offense while Scottie Phillips is the leading rusher with 308 yards and four scores. Elijah Moore is the leading receiver by a long shot with 18 catches for 278 yards and three scores.
Cal off to 3-0 start
Cal has found itself in the top 25 after a 3-0 start to the season. The Bears defeated Washington on the road two weeks ago and beat North Texas last week, 23-17. Cal is just 1-2 against the spread while hitting the under in all three games.
The Bears have also been reliant on their defense this season, allowing just 16.3 points and 313.7 yards per game. Offensively, Cal hasn’t been too powerful, averaging 23.3 points and 350.7 yards per contest. The team is being led by quarterback Chase Garbers, who has 478 passing yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 130 yards. Christopher Brown Jr. is the leading rusher with 324 yards and two touchdowns. Evan Weaver is leading the defense with 40 tackles.
College Football Betting Trends
Ole Miss
The Rebels are 9-24-1 against the spread in their last 34 games overall and 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 games following a failed cover.
California
Cal is 4-1 against the spread in their last five against a winning team and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games following a win.
Prediction:
Both teams have shown good and bad play, but Ole Miss seems to be a little more tested. While Cal was able to upset Washington on the road, its other two games were relative cakes, and the Bears didn’t do anything to dominate those games. Ole Miss has been to Memphis and hosted Arkansas. The Rebels shouldn’t see anything in this game that would surprise them and they have the home-field advantage. I expect Cal to struggle with Ole Miss’ physicality and come up short.
College Football Week 4 Prediction: Ole Miss -2.5
