Clemson off to perfect start
The Clemson Tigers are off to a 3-0 start to the season following a 38-7 win over Georgia Southern last weekend. The Tigers have failed to cover the spread in all three games so far while hitting the under in two of three. They have actually hit the under in five of their last six as a program.
As in previous season, Clemson has been dominant on defense this year. The Tigers are giving up just 13.3 points and 268 yards per game. Their run defense is allowing just 89.3 yards per game thus far. On offense, Clemson is averaging 38 points and 513 yards per game. The Tigers are utilizing two quarterbacks as Trevor Lawrence has thrown for 424 yards and five touchdowns while Kelly Bryant has 405 passing yards with two scores and 125 rushing yards with two more scores. Travis Etienne is the leading rusher with 269 yards and four touchdowns.
Georgia Tech on back-to-back losses
Georgia Tech has lost two straight since a 41-0 win over Alcorn State. The Yellow Jackets have suffered a 49-38 loss at South Florida and a 24-19 loss at Pittsburgh over the last two weeks. They have also failed to cover in all three games this year while hitting the under in two of the three.
Tech is putting up strong numbers on offense this year by their usual powerful running game. The Jackets are averaging 32.7 points and 510.3 yards per game so far, including 392.7 rushing yards per contest. TaQuon Marshall is leading the rushing attack with 293 yards and four touchdowns while also throwing for 353 yards and two scores. Jordan Mason is adding 274 rushing yards. Defensively, Georgia Tech is allowing 24.3 points and 302.3 yards per game, including just 156 passing yards per game.
College Football Betting Trends
The Tigers are 6-1-1 with the under in their last eight conference games and 4-1 with the under in their last five after a win.
Georgia Tech is 5-1 with the under in five of their last six games in September and 5-2 in their last seven home games.
These two have hit the under in three of their last four meetings and I can see it hitting again this weekend. Tech needs to be able to run the ball to succeed and Clemson’s run defense is top level. The Tigers should create a lot of problems for Tech. On offense, I think Clemson will have some success but not score on every possession. Tech can put up a fight at home to keep this game interesting.
