Auburn Tigers Game Notes
Auburn sophomore QB Bo Nix completed 20-of-22 passes for 275 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday’s 60-10 rout of Akron. Nix (6’3/214) also rushed three times for 32 yards, and he was mostly untouched in this tune-up game laugher. The three touchdown passes tied a career high which he also accomplished Oct. 19, 2019 at Arkansas, and last season on Oct. 31 against LSU. It won’t get any more difficult for the Tigers, as they welcome Alabama State of the FCS to the Plains next weekend. Expect more eye-popping numbers for Nix, as he looks to build confidence ahead of a road trip to Penn State Sept. 18.
Penn State Nittany Lions Game Notes
Dan Patrick reports that Penn State HC James Franklin and USC have mutual interest for the Trojans’ head coaching vacancy. With USC mercifully ending the Clay Helton era who was in the midst of his seventh season in SoCal and sports a 12-16 record against top-25 teams during his tenure. USC’s last three head coaching hires have collectively resulted in a decade of underperformance from the Trojans’ football team. From firing Lane Kiffin on the tarmac following an egregious loss in 2013, to Steve Sarkisian’s substance abuse issues and now the ill-fated Clay Helton era, USC desperately needs to make the right HC hire this time. For his part, Franklin just received a six-year contract extension form PSU last year, so he’s far from a lame duck in Happy Valley. As is to be expected when a high-profile program fires it’s coach a mere two games into the season, the rumor mill will be in full effect until an official announcement is made.
