Cal Golden Bears Game Notes
Cal’s game at Notre Dame will mark the first meeting between the teams in 55 seasons. “I think maybe in the spring or summer, some guys maybe talked about it more than some other games,” Scott said. “But we’re definitely a week-by-week team. Now it’s week 3 and we’ve got Notre Dame.”
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Game Notes
Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman confirmed Monday that Drew Pyne will start the Fighting Irish’s Week 3 game against California on Saturday, Mike Berardino of the South Bend Tribune reports. Freeman added that freshman Steve Angeli will receive about 40 percent of the snaps with the first-team offense in practice this week to stay ready if needed, but Pyne will take over as Notre Dame’s new No. 1 quarterback after starter Tyler Buchner (shoulder) suffered a season-ending injury in the Fighting Irish’s upset loss to Marshall over the weekend. Pyne, a redshirt sophomore who fell short in his battle with Buchner for the starting job in training camp, has completed 20 of 39 pass attempts for 256 yards, three touchdowns and one interception over seven career games for Notre Dame. Unlike Buchner, Pyne doesn’t offer much of a threat as a runner and won’t have as high of a floor or ceiling as a fantasy option.

Cal vs. Notre Dame Betting Prediction
The Golden Bears are 5-0-1 against the spread in their last six games coming off an ATS loss, have covered in 16 of their last 23 away games and are 20-9 at the betting window in their last 29 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game. The Fighting Irish have struggled mightily offensively thus far and are now transitioning to a backup, inexperienced quarterback. I’m taking the points with Cal.
