College Football Week 3 Picks: Will Georgia State and Penn State go under?

Can No. 5 Penn State score enough points against Georgia State to carry the over in today’s 7:30PM ET matchup? Here’s a closer look at the total.

According to oddsmakers at, Penn State is the heavy favorite at home, as the Nittany Lions are getting odds of -37 points against Georgia State. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 55.5 points. These two will meet from Beaver Stadium in University Park, Pennsylvania and the game will air live on the Big Ten Network.

Georgia State is 0-1 on the season due to a 17-10 loss to Tennessee State at home two weeks ago. The Panthers were well under the total of 56 points in the loss. Georgia State was held to just 273 total yards in the loss while Tennessee State put up 383 total yards, including 238 rushing yards. Georgia State used two quarterbacks in the loss as Conner Manning and Aaron Winchester combined to go 18 of 23 passing for 224 yards. Taz Bateman caught six passes for 74 yards and a touchdown and was also the leading rusher with 27 yards on 12 carries.

Penn State is off to a 2-0 start with a 52-0 win over Akron and a 33-14 win over Pitt. The Nittany Lions have still hit the under in both games despite the good offensive totals. Through two games, Penn State is allowing just seven points and 250.5 yards per game defensively. On offense, PSU is putting up 42.5 points and 440.5 yards per game. Saquon Barkley has rushed for 260 yards and three touchdowns to lead the team while Trace McSorley has thrown for 444 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 113 yards and a score.

Bet on Georgia State vs. Penn State

This game could be similar to the Penn State vs. Akron contest. I see the Nittany Lions dominating on both sides of the ball. The defense should be able to keep Georgia State from doing much of anything while the Nittany Lions offense should run right over the Panthers. Georgia State has hit the under in its last five road games in and six of its last seven non-conference contests. While Penn State should put up a big number, it will likely hold Georgia State to a small one and keep the total below 55.5
