Toledo gets big home game
Toledo opened the season with a 66-3 win over VMI back on Sept. 1. They had the week off last week to prepare for this game with Miami, a rare chance to host a power 5 team. The Rockets covered the 48.5-point spread against VMU while going well over the 57-point total. Toledo is 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 games.
The Rockets were rolling in the opener against VMI, posting 603 yards of total offense in the win while holding the Keydets to 235 total yards and forcing three turnovers. Quarterback Mitchell Guadagni threw for 265 yards and three touchdowns in the win while nine different players combined for 213 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
Miami with another road test
After the 33-17 loss to LSU in the opener, Miami bounced back last week by dominating Savannah State for a 77-0 win. The Hurricanes are 1-1 against the spread through the two games and 2-0 with the over. Miami is just 1-5 against the spread in its last six games.
It’s hard to gauge Miami for this game due to the great difference in their two opponents. The Hurricanes are averaging 47 points and 418 yards per game on offense while giving up 16.5 points and just 187 yards per game. Malik Rosier has thrown for 390 yards and three touchdowns to lead the offense while three different backs have over 80 rushing yards for the Canes. Jeff Thomas has reeled in six passes for 199 yards and a touchdown.
College Football Betting Trends
Toledo
Toledo is 9-2-1 against the spread in their last 12 games in September, but 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games following a bye.
Miami
Miami is 2-5 against the spread in its last seven games against a team with a winning record, but 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games in September.
Prediction:
I think this game will be competitive in the first half, as Toledo will ride a boost of momentum with the big home game. However, Miami should be able to pull away in the second half. The Hurricanes will have the better athletes on both sides of the ball and should be able to start using their speed to set a pace that the Rockets won’t be able to keep up with. It could be a shootout, but I ultimately like Miami to cover.
College Football Prediction: Miami -10.5
