Penn State dominant thus far
Penn State is off to a 2-0 start thanks to a 79-7 win over Idaho and a 45-13 win over Buffalo through the first two games. The Nittany Lions have covered the spread in both games while going over in both as well.
The Nittany Lions have been dominant thus far, averaging 62 points and 515 yards per game on offense while allowing just 10 points and 287 yards per game defensively. Quarterback Sean Clifford is leading the team with 559 passing yards and six touchdowns while rushing for 108 yards. KJ Hamler is the leading receiver with seven catches for 177 yards and two scores while Devyn Ford has 108 rushing yards and a score. Yetur Gross-Matos is leading the defense with 3.5 sacks.
Pitt struggling on offense
Pittsburgh suffered a 30-14 loss at home to Virginia to open the season, but bounced back last week with a 20-10 win over Ohio. The Panthers are 1-1 against the spread while hitting the under in both games.
The Pitt Panthers have struggled offensively this year, averaging just 17 points and 372 yards per game thus far. The defense has been playing well, allowing just 20 points and 261 yards per game. Kenny Pickett has led the offense with 506 passing yards and two touchdowns, but also has two interceptions. Maurice French has 16 receptions for 192 yards and a score while A.J. Davis is the leading rusher with 114 yards. Jaylen Twyman is leading the defense with three sacks.
College Football Betting Trends
Penn State
The Nittany Lions have covered in five straight games in September and 20-5-2 ATS in their last 27 game on grass.
Pittsburgh
The Panthers are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight against a winning team, but just 4-12-1 ATS in their last 17 non-conference games.
Prediction:
Penn State looks to be out for blood this season and now it gets to face an in-state rival at home. The Nittany Lions beat up Pitt last year for a 51-6 win on the road and I think it could be just as ugly this time around. While Pitt has good defensive numbers thus far this year, I don’t think they reflect what Pitt’s defense ultimately will look like. Penn State has been moving the ball at ease and scoring at pretty much any time they like. I expect this to get out of hand quickly.
