Temple rolls past Bucknell
Temple had last weekend off, but opened its season with a 56-12 win over Bucknell. The Owls were able to cover as a 41.5-point favorite while going over the 53.5-point total.
The Owls rolled in the opener, putting up 695 yards of total offense while holding Bucknell to 211 yards. Quarterback Anthony Russo threw for 409 yards and four touchdowns, while Temple finished with 507 passing yards. Branden Mack had nine receptions for 130 yards to lead that group while Re’Mahn Davis was the leading rusher with 60 yards on nine carries.
Maryland looking impressive
The Maryland football team has looked as good as anyone through two games, as the Terrapins have beaten Howard and Syracuse by a combined score of 142-20. The Terps are 2-0 against the spread while going over in both games.
The Terrapins are averaging 71 points and 636.5 yards per game on offense so far through two games while the Terps are giving up just 10 points and 234 yards per contest. Quarterback Josh Jackson has thrown for 541 yards and seven touchdowns. Jake Funk is leading the ground game with 173 yards and two touchdowns while Dontay Demus Jr. has six catches for 125 yards and two scores. Keandre Jones is leading the defense with 12 tackles and 3.5 sacks.
College Football Betting Trends
Temple
The Owls have covered in six of their last eight against Big Ten opponents and in 20 of their last 26 following a cover.
Maryland
Maryland has covered the spread in five of their last six games in September and in four of their last five non-conference games.
Prediction:
Maryland has started fast in previous years, but usually been injury-plagued by this points, especially at quarterback. With the Terps staying healthy thus far, we see what they are capable of on offense. Going on the road for the first time could be an issue, but Maryland was able to open the season with a win at Texas a few years ago. I think this Maryland team is legit and has to be taken seriously. They are very explosive and keep their foot on the gas. Temple isn’t a bad team, but I don’t see the Owls being able to score with Maryland if the Terps are at their best. I will go with Maryland to stay hot.
