Memphis falls at Navy

Memphis is coming off a 22-21 loss at Navy last week for a 1-1 start. The Tigers defeated Mercer 66-14 in its opener. The Tigers are 1-1 against the spread and 1-1 with the over/under total. They are just 1-3 against the spread in their last four games.

The Memphis offense is averaging 565 yards per game so far, but most came against Mercer. Last week’s loss saw Memphis put up 378 yards of offense, including 233 rushing yards. However, the team had four turnovers. Darrell Henderson rushed for 212 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Memphis offense while Brady White threw for 145 yards and an interception. Defensively, Memphis allowed just 316 yards to the Midshipmen.

Panthers fail to cover on the road

Georgia State is coming off a 41-7 loss at N.C. State last weekend to fall to 1-1 on the season. Their win was a 24-20 victory over Kennesaw State. Georgia State is 1-1 against the spread and 1-1 with the over/under. The Panthers are just 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games

The Panthers are putting up 332 yards per game on the season while allowing 461.5 yards per game. That includes 313.5 passing yards per contest. Quarterback Dan Ellington has been leading the offense this year, throwing for 381 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 107 yards. No Panthers backs have more than 52 yards rushing right now.

College Football Betting Trends

Memphis has covered the spread in five straight Friday games and they are 4-1-1 against the spread in their last six home games.

Georgia State

Georgia State is 22-9 against the spread in their last 31 road games and 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games after allowing more than 450 total yards in their previous game.

Georgia State struggled a great deal on the road last week and I would expect the struggles to continue at Memphis this evening. The Tigers should be able to overwhelm the Panthers with their offense and I don’t see Georgia State putting up enough offense to answer the Memphis scores.

College Football Prediction: Memphis -28.5
