Public Betting Trends
According to the latest oddsmakers, Texas Tech is the slight favorite on the road, as the Red Raiders are getting odds of -2 points against Arizona. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 77 points. The public betting currently has 76 percent going on Texas Tech as the favorite. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our NCAAF Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Texas Tech off to 2-0 start
The Texas Tech football team is off to a 2-0 start to the season thanks to lopsided wins over Montana State and UTEP. The Red Raiders were able to cover the spread in both games while going under the total in both as well.
Tech has been pretty impressive on defense this year, holding opponents to just 6.5 points and 210 yards per game. Offensively, the Red Raiders are putting up 41.5 points and 557.5 yards per contest. Alan Bowman is leading the team right now with 696 passing yards and five touchdowns. TJ Vasher has been his top target with 12 receptions for 150 yards and two touchdowns. Armand Shyne is the leading rusher with 170 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.
Arizona bounces back
The Arizona Wildcats were upset at Hawaii to open the season three weeks ago, but they bounced back last weekend with a 65-41 win over Northern Arizona. Arizona is 0-2 against the spread while going over the total in both games.
Arizona has been able to put up big numbers on offense, but the Wildcats are also giving up big numbers. Zona is averaging 51.5 points and 629.5 yards per game on offense while giving up 43 points and 518.5 yards per contest. Khalil Tate is leading the team with 499 passing yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 109 yards and a score. J.J. Taylor is the leading rusher with 169 yards and two touchdowns while Tayvian Cunningham is the leading receiver with seven catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Texas Tech
The Red Raiders have covered the spread in four straight non-conference games, but just 2-6 ATS in their last eight games on grass.
Arizona
Arizona is 5-1 ATS in their last six games on grass and 4-1 ATS in their last five home games.
Prediction:
Both teams are facing a tough test this week. Tech hasn’t had to hit the road yet and is going to have its defense severely tested. I don’t suspect the Red Raiders defense is as good as their numbers currently indicate. Arizona should be able to put up points regularly. While Texas Tech is likely to have success against this questionable Arizona defense, I do think going on the road for the first time will lead to some costly errors. Arizona can learn from its loss to Hawaii and use that experience to find a way to win a close game at home.
