Vandy off to 2-0 start
Vanderbilt has gotten off to a rare 2-0 start for the program by picking up lopsided wins over Middle Tennessee and Nevada. The Commodores have covered the spread in both wins while hitting the under in each contest. They have hit the under in four of their last six as a program.
The Vanderbilt defense has looked really good so far, allowing just 8.5 points and 272 yards per game. Their run defense is allowing just 75 yards per contest. On offense, Vandy is putting up 38 points and 407 yards per game. Kyle Shurmur has thrown for 428 yards and four touchdowns to lead the offense while Ke’Shawn Vaughn is the leading rusher with 130 yards. Kalija Lipscomb has caught 14 passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns.
Notre Dame edges two foes
Notre Dame opened its season with a big 24-17 win over Michigan in the opener, but then had to grind out a 24-16 win over Ball State last week in what was somewhat of a predictable letdown performance. The Irish are 1-1 against the spread while hitting the under in both games. ND has hit the under in six straight, dating back to last season.
ND’s defense has been pretty stout so far this season, allowing just 16.5 points and 328 yards per game. On offense, the Irish are putting up 24 points and 358 yards per game. Quarterback Brandon Wimbush has thrown for 467 yards and one touchdown, but has four interceptions. He has rushed for 52 yards as well. Miles Boykin is the leading receiver with 147 yards on seven catches. Tony Jones Jr. and Jafar Armstrong have combined for 207 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

Prediction:
Perhaps Derek Mason has finally got something on track with Vanderbilt. They have looked good against some mid-major programs that have been pretty successful. Now they get a real test with Notre Dame. I think the Vandy offense will face a lot of challenges and have some struggles, but I think the Vandy defense can contain the Irish on the ground. Vandy should have some speed to get to the edges and make this another grinder for the Irish. I don’t see either team really lighting the scoreboard on fire in this one.
