USC upsets Stanford
After struggling at home with Fresno State in the season opener, USC picked up a big 45-20 win over ranked Stanford last week to move to 2-0 on the year. The Trojans are 1-1 against the spread while going 2-0 with the over.
The Trojans are putting up 38 points and 469.5 yards per game on offense through two games while giving up just 21.5 points and 398.5 yards per contest on defense. The team lost starting QB J.T. Daniels for the season due to a knee injury in the opener, but Kedon Slovis is playing well in his place. He has thrown for 434 yards and three touchdowns on 34 of 41 passing. Tyler Vaughns is the leading receiver with 16 catches for 256 yards and a TD while Vavae Malepeai is the leading rusher with 176 yards and three touchdowns.
BYU edges Tennessee
BYU lost its season opener at home to Utah, but bounced back last week with an OT win over Tennessee in dramatic fashion, 29-26. The Cougars are 1-1 against the spread on the year and 1-1 with the over/under total.
The Cougars are struggling on offense this season, averaging just 20.5 points and 319.5 yards per game. Their defense hasn’t been able to lock up teams either, giving up 28 points and 393 yards per game. Quarterback Zach Wilson is leading the team with 440 passing yards and a TD with two INT’s. Ty’Son Williams is the leading rusher with 137 yards and three touchdowns while Micah Simon has 10 catches for 162 yards.
College Football Betting Trends
USC
USC is 5-2 with the under in its last seven following a win, but 14-6-1 with the over in its last 21 non-conference games.
BYU
The Cougars are 8-1 with the under in their last 9 against Pac-12 opponents and 5-1 with the under in their last six games in September.
Prediction:
On paper, this game looks a lot like the Stanford-USC matchup from last week. However, The Trojans are hitting the road this week and it will the first road start for Slovis, a freshman. I think that will have an impact on the USC offense, as he is going to have some nerves to work out. BYU’s offense isn’t anything to be afraid of, so the Trojans should be okay on defense, I just don’t see USC putting up 45 points on the road in Slovis’ first start away from home.
College Football Week 3 Prediction: USC/BYU Under 55.5
