Akron vs. Wisconsin Pick
After a big win over LSU last week, is No. 10 Wisconsin facing a potential letdown performance when it hosts Akron today at 3:30PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Wisconsin is the favorite at home in this game, as the Badgers are getting odds of -24 points against the Zips. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 47.5 points. These two last met in 2008, with Wisconsin getting a 38-17 win. The Zips have covered in the last two meetings with Wisconsin.
Wisconsin had arguably the biggest win in Week 1 of the season, edging LSU 16-14 at Lambeau Field. The Badgers were a 12.5-point underdog entering the game and they have covered in three straight as a program. The game with the Tigers was a physical battle like you would expect. Wisconsin nearly blew a big lead once again, leading 13-0 before falling behind 14-13. Bart Houston threw a pair of interceptions, but also had 205 passing yards while Corey Clement rushed for 86 yards on 21 carries. The Wisconsin defense held LSU to just 257 total yards.
Akron got its season started with a 47-24 win over VMI. The Zips were a 29-point favorite entering the game. That failed cover snapped a five-game streak of covering the spread. The Zips racked up 576 yards of offense in the win while allowing 386 yards to VMI, including 300 passing yards. Thomas Woodson was 23 of 32 passing for 407 yards and six touchdowns to lead Akron while Jerome Lane caught 10 passes for 196 yards and two scores.
Akron moved the ball well against VMI, but there’s little chance they repeat that against Wisconsin. The Badgers showed just how tough they are by really limiting LSU and making Leonard Fournette work for every yard. The Wisconsin offense should have more success this week, especially on the ground. Look for Corey Clement to break loose and Bart Houston to take a step forward against the Zips. Wisconsin should put up a big number and cover with some ease.
