Louisville vs. Syracuse Pick
Can No. 19 Louisville and Syracuse possibly keep up with a rising total when they meet tonight at 8PM ET on ESPN2?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Louisville is favored in tonight’s game, as the Cardinals are getting odds of -14.5 points against Syracuse. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 69.5 points. Louisville has won five of the last six against Syracuse and the two have split the over/under total in their last six encounters.
Louisville hit a smaller over of 58.5 points when it toppled Charlotte last week, 70-14. The Cardinals were unstoppable on the offensive end of the field, racking up 663 yards in total, including 391 passing yards and 272 rushing yards. Lamar Jackson had one of the best individual performances of Week 1, totaling 286 passing yards with six touchdowns while rushing for 119 yards and two scores. The Louisville defense limited Charlotte to just 208 total yards and 48 rushing yards.
Syracuse also had a solid win, beating Colgate 33-7. However, the Orange went under the 63.5-point total, though that was more a fault of the Colgate offense. Syracuse held the Raiders to just 143 total yards while racking up 554 of their own. Syracuse relied heavily on the pass game, throwing for 437 yards as a team. Eric Dungey led the way with 355 yards and two scores.
The total has been climbing regularly for this game, as it opened at 64 points. The higher it gets, the more challenging it is to take the over. Both teams are facing tougher defenses than they played the week prior, but both seem to have some offensive firepower as well. Jackson is a playmaker and should still lead Louisville on plenty of scoring drivers, but Syracuse will have some success of its own. However, 69.5 is just too high for this game. The Orange would have only hit an over that high one time last season and the same goes for Louisville. This game won’t be that much of a shootout.
