Public Betting Trends

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Longhorns are 23-point favorites to beat the Golden Hurricane The total, meanwhile, sits at 61 points. As of this writing, 55% of the public betting tickets wagered on this matchup are on the Longhorns.

Tulsa Golden Hurricane

Tulsa redshirt sophomore Luke Skipper completed 15 of his 24 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 38-27 win over Central Arkansas. In addition to his work through the air Skipper also rushed for 30 yards and another touchdown on 13 carries, with a long of 25. Skipper's 49-yard first quarter touchdown pass to Justin Hobbs opened the scoring, but he was also responsible for a fourth quarter fumble that Central Arkansas returned for a 20-yard touchdown to take a 27-24 lead. To Skipper's credit he rebounded to lead Tulsa on two drives that ended with touchdowns, thus sealing the win.

Texas Longhorns

Texas sophomore QB Sam Ehlinger will start Saturday's game against Tulsa. Ehlinger struggled for the most part in the opening loss to the Terrapins, completing just 21-of-39 passes and throwing two interceptions to go with two touchdowns in the loss. Shane Buechele battled for the starting job, but he'll remain on the bench against the Hurricane on Saturday -- at least to start. Ehlinger will certainly need to be better against Tulsa to keep the job going forward.

Betting Trends

The Golden Hurricane are 15-5 against the spread in their last 20 road games.

The Longhorns own a 5-1 ATS record in their last six games following a straight up loss.

There’s good buyback opportunity on Texas, even with the ‘Horns listed as 23-point favorites. They were upset by Maryland last week but 1) the Terps played an emotional game and 2) Maryland upset Texas a year ago, too. What happened a year ago when the Longhorns lost to Maryland? They crushed San Jose State 56-0 the following week. Tom Herman is already feeling the heat in Austin and he knows his team can’t lay an egg in its home opener tonight. Backed by their own super-charged crowd, I expect UT to roll tonight.
