Tennessee vs. VA Tech Prediction
Will Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway be a defensive struggle when Virginia Tech hosts Tennessee at 8:00PM ET?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Hokies are 11.5-point home underdogs versus the Volunteers while the over/under currently sits at 54.5 points. Both the side and the total have moved off the original numbers set by oddsmakers, as UT has gone from -10.5 up to an 11.5-point favorite and the total has gone from 52 points up to 54.5.
Tennessee received a scare from Appalachian State last Thursday night in its season opener. Trailing 13-6 in the fourth quarter, Joshua Dobbs found Josh Malone on a 67-yard touchdown pass to even the score at 13-13 and eventually send the game into overtime. In OT, Jalen Hurd recovered a fumble in the end zone as the Vols beat the Mountaineers 20-13 but failed to cover as an 18.5-point favorite.
Virginia Tech found itself chasing Liberty 13-10 in the second quarter of its season opener but rallied to win 36-13 as a 31.5-point home favorite. In the game, quarterback Jerod Evans completed 20-of-32 passes for 221 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing five times for 46 yards in the win.
OUR PREDICTION: Tennessee's offense struggled mightily versus Appalachian State but should get on track this weekend. The over is 6-0 in the Vols' last six neutral site games and 19-7 in their last 26 games in September. On the other side, the over is 4-0-1 in the Hokies' last five games versus SEC opponents and 3-0-1 in their last four neutral site games. With Dobbs, Hurd, Evans and Alvin Kamara headlining this game, their should be enough points scored to push the game over the total.
