Broncos rally to beat FSU
Boise State had one of the more recognizable wins of the opening weekend, as the Broncos rallied to pick up a 36-31 win at Fresno State on Saturday. Boise was a 6.5-point underdog coming into the game and the Broncos went over the 55-point total.
The Broncos trailed Florida State 21-6 at halftime and were down 24-6 early in the third before starting a rally. Boise put up 621 total yards of offense in the win while giving up 426 to FSU. Hank Bachmeier threw for 407 yards and a touchdown on 51 pass attempts to lead the offense while Robert Mahone rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns. CT Thomas caught five passes for 103 yards to lead Boise in receiving.
Marshall doesn’t cover in lopsided win
Marshall opened the season on Saturday with a 56-17 win over Virginia Military Institute, but the Thundering Herd were unable to cover a 44-point spread. The Herd did go over the 66-point total.
Despite not covering, Marshall dominated the game on both sides of the ball, putting up 620 yards of offense while holding VMI to just 257 total yards. Isaiah Green threw for 238 yards and four touchdowns in limited action while also rushing for 46 yards. Corey Gammage led the receivers with five catches for 82 yards and a score. Tyler King was the leading rusher with 75 yards on 10 carries.
College Football Betting Trends
Boise State
Boise State has covered in five of its last seven non-conference games, but only 7-16 ATS in their last 23 home games.
Marshall
The Thundering Herd have covered in five straight road games and nine of their last 12 games in September.
Prediction:
I am surprised to see the spread what it is. Marshall is being given a lot of credit for rolling past VMI. The Herd are going on the road for the first time this season against a tough Boise State defense. The Boise offense showed it can still put up points with a new QB and skill-position players. I wouldn’t expect Marshall’s defense to completely puzzle the Broncos tonight. I will go with Boise at home minus the points, as I expect the Broncos to get enough stops on defense to keep Marshall from making this a game.
