WKU vs. Alabama Prediction
After dismantling USC in their season opener, will Alabama do the same to Western Kentucky at 3:30PM ET on Saturday?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Crimson Tide is a 28-point favorite over the Hilltoppers after opening as a 26.5-point favorite following their impressive 52-6 win over the Trojans last week. Alabama covered easily over USC as a 13.5-point favorite at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
In that game, freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts competed six-of-11 passes for 118 yards with two touchdowns and an interception to lead the Tide to a rout. Hurts also rushed nine times for 32 yards and an additional two scores, while running back Damien Harris posted 138 rushing yards on just nine carries. ArDarius Stewart was Alabama's leading receiver with four catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns.
Western Kentucky won its season-opener as well, crushing Rice 46-14 as a 19-point home favorite. Junior signal-caller Mike White completed 80.6% of his passes on 25-of-31 passing for 517 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. Two Hilltopper receivers went off, as Taywan Taylor caught five passes for 165 yards and Nicholas Norris turned his seven receptions into 147 receiving yards and two scores.
OUR EARLY PICK: Western Kentucky was impressive in its opener but Rice wasn't the same challenge that 'Bama will be on Saturday. The thing you worry about as a Tide backer is Nick Saban's team coming off the USC win flat. That said, Saban already laid the groundwork to avoiding a letdown this week when he said that he was thrilled with how his team played versus USC. Plus, with this being the Tide's home opener, one would think they would be plenty fired up.
