Notre Dame vs. Texas Pick
Will Notre Dame cover versus Texas when the two teams meet tonight in Austin at 7:30PM ET?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Fighting Irish are now 3.5-point favorites over the Longhorns and the over/under currently sits at 58 points. Both the side and the total have moved off the original number posted by oddsmakers, with Notre Dame opening as a 4.5-point favorite and the total opening at 60 points.
In their 13 lined games in 2015, the Fighting Irish covered eight times and won by an average margin of 10.2 points per contest. As a favorite, which is what they'll be tonight, they were 5-4 against the spread while winning by an average margin of 16.0. They were also 3-2 at the betting window on the road last season, but just 1-2 against the number as a road favorite.
Texas had a losing record versus the spread last season while failing to cover in seven of its 12 lined games. The Longhorns were 3-3 at the betting window at home, winning by an average margin of 10.0 points per game, and were 3-4 against the spread as an underdog (losing by 12.4 points per game in those situations). As a home underdog Texas split, going 1-1 against the spread in 2015.
OUR PICK: The Fighting Irish have been a good bet in September, covering in four of the last five games they played this month, while the Longhorns are just 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 non-conference games and are 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games versus Independent programs. Notre Dame has two quarterbacks in DeShone Kizer and Malik Zaire that have different skill sets and can be used in different ways to beat opponents. Texas is slowly rebuilding under Charlie Strong and the Longhorns could surprise this season by winning a few more games than most think. That said, Notre Dame should be able to handle business and cover for bettors.
