Rutgers runs over UMass
The Rutgers football team put an end to a lengthy losing streak thanks to a 48-21 win over UMass on Friday. The Knights were a 17-point favorite and ended up covering for the sixth straight game, dating back to last season. Rutgers went over the 54-point total as well.
Rutgers had an offensive outburst in the Week 1 victory. The Knights had 554 total yards in the victory while holding UMass to just 304 total yards. McLane Carter threw for 340 yards and two touchdowns, but also had three interceptions. Isaih Pacheco led the offense with 156 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries. The Knights also had two 100-yard receivers in the victory. Defensively, Rutgers did give up 183 rushing yards to UMass, which could be a concern this week.
Iowa rolls past Miami (Ohio)
Iowa earned a 38-14 win over Miami (Ohio) last weekend to open the season. The Hawkeyes failed to cover a 25-point spread while going over the 48-point total. The Hawkeyes have hit the over in four straight games.
The Hawkeyes had 465 yards of offense in the win last weekend, while holding Miami to just 245 total yards. Iowa had a 213-59 edge in rushing yards. Nate Stanley threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns in the victory while Mekhi Sargent led the ground attack with 91 yards and a score on 14 carries. He also led the team in receiving with four catches for 65 yards.
College Football Betting Trends
Rutgers
The Knights have hit the under in six of their last seven road games and 5-1 with the under in their last six conference games.
Iowa
Iowa has hit the over in six of its last seven games following a win and 8-2 with the over in its last 10 conference games.
Prediction:
These two have met just once as Big Ten opponents, with Iowa getting a 14-7 win at Rutgers in 2016. The Hawkeyes have a physical team that should be able to roll past this Rutgers team. The Knights gave up close to 200 rushing yards to UMass, so Iowa should rack up the yards. The Knights were able to put up a lot of offense, but that won’t happen against Iowa. There should be a much bigger struggle against this Iowa defense. The total isn’t big, and Iowa was able to hit the over against Miami. I think the score will be similar in this game, which would hit the over once again.
College Football Week 2 Prediction: Rutgers/Iowa Over 51.5
