Marshall rolls, but doesn’t cover
Marshall opened the season on Saturday with a 56-17 win over Virginia Military Institute, but the Thundering Herd were unable to cover a 44-point spread. The Herd did go over the 66-point total.
Despite not covering, Marshall dominated the game on both sides of the ball, putting up 620 yards of offense while holding VMI to just 257 total yards. Isaiah Green threw for 238 yards and four touchdowns in limited action while also rushing for 46 yards. Corey Gammage led the receivers with five catches for 82 yards and a score. Tyler King was the leading rusher with 75 yards on 10 carries.
Boise upsets Florida State
Boise State had one of the more recognizable wins of the opening weekend, as the Broncos rallied to pick up a 36-31 win at Fresno State on Saturday. Boise was a 6.5-point underdog coming into the game. The Broncos went over the 55-point total.
The Broncos trailed Florida State 21-6 at halftime and were down 24-6 early in the third before starting a rally. Boise put up 621 total yards of offense in the win while giving up 426 to FSU. Hank Bachmeier threw for 407 yards and a touchdown on 51 pass attempts to lead the offense while Robert Mahone rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns. CT Thomas caught five passes for 103 yards to lead Boise in receiving.
College Football Betting Trends
Marshall
The Thundering Herd have hit the over in five straight road games and in six straight following a failed cover.
Boise State
Boise State has hit the under in 20 of its last 27 home games and five straight games against a team with a winning record.
Prediction:
Boise State’s offense looked very good on Saturday considering it had so many new pieces to work in. Turnovers were a small issue, but the Broncos showed they have a lot of athleticism again this year. Marshall put up a lot of offense itself, but the Herd did that against VMI, so it’s not a real indicator of what to expect this weekend. The total isn’t terribly high and I think Boise should move the ball quite well on the Herd. The Broncos can score 30-40 points once again while Marshall should find some success here and there. I like the over in this one.
